The Barden Bellas Perform “Cups” in New Pitch Perfect 2
Pitch Perfect 2 asks the question: What do you do when you’ve already won nationals? You take that pitch global! Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and the rest of the Barden Bellas are back for the second installment of the runaway hit musical about collegiate a cappella. But it’s not just the girls, everyone’s back in, including Skylar Astin’s cuddly leading man, Jesse, Adam DeVine’sBumper, Ben Platt’s Benji, and John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banksas a pair of a cappella officials. Banks is pulling triple duty this time around, not only acting and producing, but also making her directorial debut.
The plot looks familiar, as the Barden Bellas are once again thrust into the underdog position in a global a cappella competition, and the trailer seems custom-made to give us exactly what we want. Anna Kendrick’s hit song “Cups”? Check. Wilson pratfalls and ad libs? Check. Salty humor, musical numbers, and plenty of female bonding? Check, check, check. We know Pitch Perfect 2 can deliver something we’ve seen before, but will we get anything new (other than Hailee Steinfeld) this time around? Well, judging by the impressive pyrotechnics and the delightfully condescending Europeans, the answer is yes. The pitch is back in theaters May 2015.
